Gary Numan is een Britse singer-songwriter, geboren op 8 maart 1958. Hij is vooral bekend als pionier van de elektronische muziek en new wave in de late jaren 70 en vroege jaren 80. Numan kreeg internationale bekendheid met zijn debuutsingle "Are 'Friends' Electric?" en het daaropvolgende album "The Pleasure Principle", waarop het iconische nummer "Cars" staat.Zijn kenmerkende synth-geluid en dystopische teksten waren baanbrekend en beïnvloedden talloze artiesten in de jaren die volgden. Hoewel hij zijn piek in populariteit in de vroege jaren 80 beleefde, bleef Numan actief in de muziekwereld en bleef hij nieuwe albums uitbrengen met een trouwe fanbase.
