Joni Mitchell, CC, (geboren Roberta Joan Anderson op 7 november 1943 in Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada) is een Canadese muzikant, singer-songwriter, dichter en schilder. Als zeer invloedrijke artiest heeft ze acht Grammy Awards ontvangen tijdens haar carrière, met de eerste keer in 1969 en de meest recente in 2008. Ze ontving een Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002, met de vermelding 'one of the most' belangrijke vrouwelijke artiesten uit het rocktijdperk ' en ' een krachtige invloed op alle kunstenaars die diversiteit, verbeeldingskracht en integriteit omarmen. ' Ze werd in 1981 ingewijd in de Canadian Music Hall of Fame en ontving in 2000 een ster op de Walk of Fame van Canada. In november 2006 werd haar album ' Blue ' door TIME Magazine vermeld als een van de ' All-Time 100 albums '.
Mitchell heeft medemuzikanten in uiteenlopende genres diep beïnvloed en haar werk wordt zeer gerespecteerd door critici.
